Akash Chopra in his cricket journey was a right-hand batsman. He began his cricket career by taking the field as an opening batsman for Delhi’s Sonnet Cricket Club. Later, he participated in the 1995 West Indies cricket tour for the India School Boys Cricket team.
Akash Chopra’s international journey was comparatively short. He just played for 10 tests where he scored a total of 437 runs which ended up at an average of 23. These runs include two half centuries. Akash Chopra entered the Indian cricket team when Delhi teammate Virender Sehwag needs an opening partner. In late 2004, Chopra again got an opportunity to work with Sehwag as Tendulkar was injured for the first test. However, Chopra had to quit as Tendulkar returned for the second match. As Yuvraj struggled for the third match, Chopra was again called to Nagpur to take up the match. This is when Australia won against India after a huge gap of 35 years. From here, Chopra’s performance average also dropped from 46 to 23. Later, Gautam Gambhir took Chopra’s position in the team and Wasim Jaffer was made a partner for Sehwag in the test matches. To be honest, he was out of the game because of his low scoring rate from then.
Akash Chopra played in IPL 2008 and IPL 2009 for Kolkata Knight Riders but he was abandoned from the team because his performance was not up to the mark for T-20 cricket. In 2011, he played for Rajasthan Royals and gave a poor performance so that was certain to be his last match. He signed the retirement in 2015.
